Less diary, more Reflection

Today, the MA group had a walk around sunny Preston! Learning about all those things I’d seen hundreds of times before, and those I hadn’t (Weird praying hand statue and the wall that hides a mysterious underground railway! It’s amazing what you ignore)

With much eye rolling and complaining about how irrelevant this all ways to games designers, it dose teach us one thing.
Even though the world is developing around us, and everything is changing and growing, tiny bits of our history can still be seen peeking out from every corner, reminding us of where we came from.

This, of course, is relevant to games! (go on, roll your eyes.)
We may keep making everything shiny, more technical and super complicated, but boiled down, its still the same, at its heart, we can still recognise some things from decades ago.

And this is where I am going with my level design project. Trying to get back to the roots of what we did in games, and how we create them, to really look at how to make it fun.

And while I dragged my heels, Josh was right. I may not be supper passionate about the ‘Batfink’ IP but its simplicity has allowed for quite a bit of creativity, and I’ve quite enjoyed trying to translate a cartoon series into game play.

And as a last note. The group is finally getting somewhere with the gateway project! More of this another time. Today’s chitchat was more informative than it was long/interesting.
